Meet Kirsty Finter, Child & Adolescent Psychologist.
Hello, I am Kirsty, a child & adolescent Psychologist, with a master's degree from the University of Melbourne. My background in primary education complements my psychological practice, providing valuable insight into children’s learning, development and emotional wellbeing.
Bridging Education, Psychology, and Understanding.
Navigating the unique challenges of childhood and adolescence can sometimes feel overwhelming for both young people and their families. With a strong background in primary teaching and extensive experience collaborating directly with schools, I bring a deeply practical, classroom-ready perspective to psychological support.
My goal is to help children, teens, and their families make sense of their experiences, uncover their strengths, and build a meaningful pathway forward. Whether you need an assessment or ongoing support, here is how I can help with both:
Insight Assessments: I utilise targeted psychological and developmental assessments designed to help your child truly understand how their mind works - their unique profile, learning style, and intrinsic needs.
Practical, Actionable Reports: Assessment results are translated into clear, comprehensive reports. These are crafted not just for clinical records, but to give parents, educators, and support teams real-world strategies on what works best for your child in everyday environments.
School Collaboration: Because child spend a significant part of their lives in classrooms, I actively bridge the gap between clinical support and school settings to ensure consistent, supportive strategies across the board.
My practice is rooted in a person-centred approach. I use a trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming lens because I believe that every behaviour is a form of communication, and every child carries a story that deserves to be heard. I do this by working together to help the child and the people in their world understand their history, emotions, and responses without judgement. I celebrate neurodivergent minds, focusing on accommodation, self-advocacy, and emotional safety rather than trying to change who a child is. This all helps to collectively work together to find a meaningful path forward. By understanding the “why” behind behaviours and challenges, we co-create practical, compassionate strategies that empower young people to thrive.

A gentle invitation
If you’re considering an assessment for your child, or are simply unsure whether it’s the right step, you’re very welcome to reach out. We’re happy to talk through your concerns and help you decide on next steps; even if that means deciding to wait or explore other supports first.
