ADHD Assessment
A supportive, individualised pathway to clarity
Our Approach
ADHD assessments at Insight Collective are not just about attention; they are about understanding the young person’s inner world: what it’s like to sit in a classroom with a mind that races, to feel overwhelmed by starting tasks, to experience strong emotions quickly, or to work twice as hard to “keep it together.” Many young people with ADHD internalise shame or feel they are “lazy” or “not trying.” Our approach is strengths-based and person-centred, helping them understand their brain with compassion and clarity.
We pace the assessment to the child or adolescent’s needs. Some young people benefit from shorter segments, movement breaks, visual supports, or a more conversational style. Others want structure and predictability. We adjust the rhythm, environment, and assessment tools to support engagement and reduce fatigue, because how a young person experiences assessment affects the quality of the information we gather.
ADHD can look different across individuals (including inattentive presentations and high-masking adolescents), and it commonly overlaps with anxiety, learning differences, sleep issues, and sensory needs. We therefore tailor the assessment battery based on the referral question and presentation. Typically, this includes a detailed intake; multi-informant questionnaires (parent, teacher, and self-report, where appropriate); structured clinical exploration of symptoms and functional impact; and, when indicated, cognitive or learning measures to clarify executive functioning, working memory, processing speed, and academic functioning.
We provide clear recommendations that translate into practical strategies for home and school, and with parent consent we can gather teacher input and provide education-friendly guidance. The goal is not only diagnostic clarity where appropriate, but a supportive understanding of how to help the young person thrive.
