Cognitive Assessment

A supportive, individualised pathway to clarity

Our Approach

Cognitive assessment at Insight Collective is about more than scores; it’s about understanding the young person’s thinking style, learning efficiency, and day-to-day experience. We aim to capture a profile that reflects the child as a whole person: their strengths, the tasks that feel effortful, how they manage pressure, what supports help them regulate, and what environments allow them to thrive. Our approach is paced, person-centred, and tailored to the individual.

We adjust the assessment process to match each young person’s needs. Some children benefit from shorter sessions, sensory breaks, or a slower pace. Some adolescents prefer collaborative discussion and clear explanations of “why we’re doing this.” We prioritise comfort and psychological safety so the assessment feels supportive rather than intimidating, and we choose tools that best fit the referral question and presentation.

Cognitive assessment can clarify patterns across areas such as verbal reasoning, visual reasoning, working memory, and processing speed, and can support school planning, learning adjustments, and understanding of uneven profiles (including giftedness or twice-exceptionality). When Intellectual Developmental Disorder (IDD) is included in the referral question, we take particular care to assess both intellectual and adaptive functioning (everyday skills such as communication, independence, and social functioning). This ensures findings reflect real-world support needs, not a single number.

You will receive a clear explanation of results in an accessible language, with practical recommendations for home and school. We can provide guidance to support planning, funding pathways where relevant, and long-term support that fits the young person’s actual needs and lived experience.
